7/30 Early Morning Run

Today's Run on Strava

The bed felt good this morning but something pushed me out to get a start on the day.  My run was slow but steady. There was a hint and then a sprinkle of rain from the overcast sky.  It seemed cooler.  Breakfast was going to have to wait today, although coffee at home to begin would have been good BEFORE this 5 mile "experiment" on actual roads again. -- Can't believe I broke my second coffee carafe in as many weeks!  There's a little plastic piece with a spring in it that somehow snapped off and separated from the top of the carafe.  Heck if I couldn't re-install that piece two days ago!  Will need to order another carafe from Amazon!

I wore my Winner's Circle Running Club singlet this morning.  Won't be able to join them in Salisbury tonight for their Tuesday evening run due to a possible conflict with an afternoon doctor's appointment.

I've been checking out a website called Youkanrun.com It's pretty cool.  You can volunteer at their races and they offer several races you can then race in for FREE!  The idea of running a half marathon DOES still seem possible, but more time will be needed to train for one. The logistics of WHEN to volunteer for a race and WHICH half marathon to select for the FREE option race (with coupon) is still a little unclear to me at this point, but it may be possible (if there are volunteer spaces still available) to do one of possibly two races.  Just not sure which one yet...

7/29 Morning Walk

I took it easy today.  It was cool and cloudy.  The sun was just coming up.  Not visible yet.  The pace was a little faster than I usually go.

7/28 Track Run - Using Two Applications ...

This morning I took a little time to see where I was "at" for total mileage this week.  On review, I discovered I was 3.87 miles under the 19 mile plan I had made.  So, to make everything "perfect," I decided to go for a 3.87 mile run!

Yesterday's 5k in Upton did not seem to adversely affect my legs!  So, carefully, I began my track run thinking if I put in a 12 or even 13 minute pace, I'd finish the week off with no issues.  Such was the case!!

I missed the look of my COROS watch data, so I re-enabled an upload to the 3rd party Strava app thereby making my runs viewable to all on Strava if they wanted to view the runs. Note:  THIS run is an exception so it does not appear on Strava.  Tricky stuff, but I may get it right soon. I did the same re-linking (to Strava) for my Garmin 45 running watch as well.  Today's run was recorded wearing my COROS watch.  I like how the summaries look.  Strava maps (and data) are also cool.  Today I am including, as mentioned, just the COROS data.

The 'Hot to Trot' 5k Race in Upton, MA

Race Results

I ran the 5k in Upton this morning.  It was nice to meet several fellow runners -- young and not so young. So nice to share in the spirit of keeping on with keeping on at "our" age now.  Any (and all) times were good today!  I was fortunate enough to safely put together a first place award for my 70+ age group.

I was a bit amazed I was able to put in this pace while also monitoring my right hamstring and (at times) knee pains in the same leg.  It was sunny and warm.  This was a very special day in many respects. Great to connect and be connected to as we all move through this precious life we have.

7/26 Walk in the Park

The sun was rising as I walked.  It was a short walk today.  "Tapering" for tomorrow's 5k in Upton.  There was much wildlife this morning. Geese, rabbits, squirrels and 2 chickens!  The weather was calm and cool.  The moon was "gibbous."  More than half and less than full.

Back To the Track...

It wasn't until later in the day when I finally decided to run,  When I got to the track I was planning on 3 miles, but at about 2.5 miles I decided I would "go the extra mile" as they say.  The pace was tolerable at 3 miles -- meaning my right leg was getting a little sore, but the pain was not yet enough to warrant a complete stop at 3.  It was hot out there today.  The sun was strong, but not at all unbearable.  I completed the 4 miles in a respectable pace.  I also decided (today) to sign up for a 5k race in Upton, MA for this Saturday.  More on this race soon!  Here are the stats for today's run on the Harvard track.

Walking to Dunkin' & the Train Station

I had to pick up my car in Fitchburg this morning.  Busy day!  I had to forego a plan to run 4 miles today.  I walked to Dunkin' in Ayer to get a large hot with milk only.  Then it was on to the train station to get the 7:35 am to Fitchburg.  I walked 1/2 mile more (to the repair shop in Fitchburg) but did not record the walk on my watch.  I drove to work (with a repaired front left wheel bearing and a new ball joint on the front wheel axle).  I worked late to make up the lost hour to pick up the car.

A Beginning Run

This my first entry into my 2024 running journal.  There have been many runs thus far in 2024 for me, but a few days ago I began to think of starting a new journal -- this time using my older "tried-and-true" Garmin 45 Forerunner watch.  What follows is a recap of those "new" runs since July 23rd - today!
